Fleet Management System (FMS)

FMS provides a manufacturer-independent, standardized way to tap into vital vehicle information enabling robust telematics and fleet management without compromising vehicle integrity.

What is the FMS Standard?

The FMS-Standard (Fleet Management Systems Interface) is a unified data interface developed in 2002 by leading European commercial-vehicle manufacturers (including Daimler AG, MAN AG, Scania, Volvo Group, DAF Trucks and IVECO) to enable third-party telematics solutions to work seamlessly across different vehicle brands.

Rather than connecting directly to a vehicle’s internal bus which might risk reliability or void warranties FMS acts as a secure, standardized gateway. Through FMS, applications can read a wide range of parameters from a vehicle’s ECU, in a manufacturer-agnostic manner.

Evolution of the FMS Standard

Since its inception, the FMS standard has evolved to extend its capabilities and support across a broader set of vehicle types and data parameters:

Thanks to this evolution, the FMS interface now supports a rich set of vehicle data — making it suitable for modern fleet management, telematics, and analytics applications.
